N.B. DJR - I usually put these into the 'Members Dogs' section but Reno has done so well thought it warranted being put into the club news and notes of interest.
Reno at Wye Valley Open KC Agility Show
Reno competed in the Wye valley open KC agility show down at Monmouth last weekend.
Saturday she won the large grade 3 jumping and on Sunday came first in the large combined 3 to 5 jumping.
The latter win gave me immense satisfaction because it was a combined class and she was up against all the dogs in the higher grades and she/we are only a lowly grade 3.
I was totally made up.
The pic on her own was the grade 3 win and the one with me was the combined win.

Celia's Special Birthday
Our Club Manager, Celia, had a rather special birthday in the New Year of 2023. No-one will tell me which birthday it was but what's wrong with turning 50 :-) Her present, from the club, is a bouquet of flowers, each month for six months, and a champagne tea at the Painswick Hotel. Well deserved after their involvement, and devotion, to the club for over 60 years (oops, sorry, can't have been her 50th birthday I suppose!). |

Our club member, Alan Dormann, has sent in a photograph of Reno.
She is looking incredibly proud of her rosettes, trophies and a Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog award certificate earned over the past 12 months. And quite rightly so. Reno takes part in agility and shows nationwide so, apart from being a beautiful young lady, she is also very capable. However, as Alan points out, still a lot to learn and she can even be a little wild at times. No wonder we love our dogs. |
Text of message from Shirley, which she received from Veterans with Dogs;
We recently signed up to be part of the Veterans Lottery as we receive funding from the Veterans Foundation who run this lottery. After testing it all out we have agreed to share this with everybody as the Veterans Lottery provides vital funding and support to many small charities like us.
Currently they are running a scheme whereby they donate back to VWD for every person that signs up with them. (£25)
The link below takes you to the Veterans Lottery site and is the only way of tracking people who sign up through VWD:
https://veteransfoundation.org.uk/AVWD
Only sign up if you want to, there is no pressure from us. It will cost you £10 a month and we want to be clear, upfront, and honest about this beforehand. Details of the draws are shown on the lottery site itself. Feel free to share with family and friends but it must be the link above for it to count in favour of VWD.
the charity is very grateful for all the support the club has given them over many years.

An absolutely incredible donation to Veterans with Dogs from 'Forthglade'. Message from Shirley Pierechod about this below. VETERANS WITH DOGS We’re super excited to introduce Buddy, our latest future hero pup! All thanks to our incredible friends at forthglade who have kindly donated £15,000 to the care of our life changing dogs, and for their followers for picking his lovely name! Buddy will grow up to become an assistance dog and ‘buddy’ to a veteran suffering with mental health difficulties, like PTSD. |

I am sending a big thank you to all at Stonehouse Dog training club for the Donation to my 2.6 Challenge for the charity.
The clubs support over the years has been sincerely appreciated, helping to support the veterans and their fabulous assistance dogs. Whilst the last couple of months have seen us face new challenges, the charity is working hard to ensure we will all come out of this stronger, closer and embracing new ways of working together. Veterans work hard within their partnerships towards building new confidence, managing their conditions and social independence. The lockdown enforces the complete opposite of what they aim to achieve. However, through new virtual mediums and increased online training, the veterans and their dogs are doing well throughout this social restriction. Please pass on my thanks to everyone at the club, I hope you and your dogs are all keeping well and keeping “pawsitive”! Having our companions at this time, I believe, has been a true blessing, highlighting beyond doubt the positive effects they have in supporting our mental and physical well being. |
Mike Vines 80th Birthday at the Club
Mike really had a surprise to see new and old friends at the party - it was a lovely buffet and he was presented with his presents , all from club members , of hotel gift vouchers and tickets for the Eden Project in Cornwall. A special card and birthday cake had been made for him , and he was delighted with it all.
Mike has been at the club since 1963, as Club Manager, Head Trainer and Chief Stays Steward at the Championsip Show, and is now President of the Club. He is also a former Army Military Police Dog Handler.

We would like to suggest Veterans With Dogs as the charity of choice.
Veterans With Dogs' assistance dog programme is the first of its' kind in the UK.
We're helping Veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other mental health conditions, cope better with their symptoms and enabling them to lead more independent lives.
We do this because we care about our Veterans. There are those with physical injuries, and those with injuries less easy to see. We understand the real need to provide specially trained dogs to help mitigate the debilitating effects of mental health difficulties. The task is a huge undertaking, but seeing how veterans and their families suffer is a heart-breaking experience, and only strengthens our resolve to do 'something' to help. That is exactly what we are doing, and the results speak for themselves.
The 'PALS' (Partner Animal Life Skills) Programme to train and provide assistance dogs for mental health is just one adjunct to treatment that is having a profound effect on helping Veterans to increase their quality of life and regain independence.

The Cinnamon trust presentation
Taken at the Fish & Chip Supper & Quiz night on Saturday 28 April 2018 when Celia presented the money raised from last years sponsored walk to two local ladies representing the Cinnamon Trust . Both ladies gave a talk about the work of the Trust and how they help people.
The walk raised over £600 and the club made up the amount to £ 1,000
Photo shows Pat on the left with her foster dog, Timothy whose elderly owner went into hospital and unfortunately passed away - Pat was fostering Timothy and has now given him a permanent home , Mary on the right of the picture walks a dog several times a week whose owner can no longer manage to take him out.
A very worthy cause for the club to support.

SDTC Donate Animal breathing apparatus to Fire Service
MaThe club recently donated 12 life saving oxygen mask kits for use by the Gloucestershire Fire Service. Each set comprises three different size masks and a muzzle , and as 46% of households in the country have pets, and over 40,000 house fires every year claim the lives of many animals we are hoping that these will make a difference in the area.
The kits were supplied to us by Smokey Paws which is a non profit making charity who are hoping to eventually supply this life saving apparatus to every fire station in the UK. The way animals are treated for smoke inhalation from fires can make the difference between life or death, but many pets do not receive same the level of help that a human can expect, as until now the masks used are designed for people, so the animal does not get the sufficient level of oxygen.
Using these kits the small masks are suitable for hamsters, guinea pigs and snakes , medium masks are used for small dogs and cats, and the large sets are ideal for large dogs.
With human masks being used only 20% of oxygen is received by the afflicted animal, but with pet masks your pet can receive 95% oxygen making a huge difference to survival rates. Committee member Julie Cull researched and liased with Smokey Paws and the Stroud Fire Brigade to enable this most worthwhile project to take place , and the Fire Service organised some excellent publicity including TV stations, radio , council and other photographers which will hopefully bring this to the attention of other people and local businesses who may also donate to this worthy cause.

SdtC donate A DEFIBRILLATOR to community centreStonehouse Dog Training Club have recently bought a defibrillator for the Stonehouse Community Centre where they hold their training lessons. The Lifepak defibrillator is a critical resourse to help anyone suffering from sudden cardiac arrest, and provides easy to use guidance if used by a member of the public whilst waiting for the emergency services . Our photograph shows Mary Coates, Chairman of the Community Centre, being presented with the gift by Celia Vines, Club Manager of the Stonehouse Dog Training Club. |

Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme
Puppy Foundation Course
Stonehouse Dog Training Club is going to run the KC GCD Puppy Foundation Course for the benefit of puppies and owners.
The Puppy Foundation Assessment aims to provide a means of socialising puppies and to lay down a foundation for future education and training.
It will ensure that puppies will respond to their handlers and the handlers will have an awareness of the responsibilities of dog ownership. Both of which are essential elements in the Good Citizen Dog Scheme awards.
A description of the course is enclosed as 2 downloadable files, pages 1 and 2, below or can be read at the foundation course link above.

SDTC Donation to Poppy appeal bike ride
The club have always been delighted with the website that David has been maintaining over the years - it is of great interest to our existing members and is our main source of info for new people and their dogs to join our training club, not only giving such detail of our classes and activities, but other items of interest as well.
We were only too happy to make our donation to his most worthy bike ride for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, and our President Mike Vines was delighted to present the cheque to him.
The ride is to be run on 24 June 2017 and will cover 500 miles in less than 24 hours. There are strict rules as to the route, stops to make with receipts from fuel etc. kept to prove the route has been followed.
Information about the ride and the route can be found on Davids' Justgiving page
- https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/David-Rose33
27 June Update;
The Ride was completed on Saturday 24 June and David covered 513 miles in 13.5 hours including 5 fuel stops (to collect receipts to show the correct route had been adhered too) and a lunch stop in Denholm in the Scottish Borders.
David raised a total of £786.25 including £91.25 in gift aid.
The £200 donation by the club raised a further £50 in gift aid so made a very large donation to the amount going to the Poppy Appeal.
David would like to pass on his very appreciative thanks to the club on behalf of himself and the Royal British Legion.
Photograph below shows David on his lunch stop.
