Thanks to Jenny Broadbank for sending in this photograph of the Skittles evening.
The skittles evening was on Saturday 9th November 2019 at the Magpies club on Oldends Lane. I think there were around 25 of us. Linda organised it and the Magpies club put on a fantastic buffet. Dave and Jean Hogg's son won the skittles game. Veronica won the game of Killer so walked off with the prize of £5! She was thrilled. We could have done with a few more people but it was fun. |
SDTC BBQ EVENING 25 June 2019
Another successful and well attended BBQ at the Stonehouse Community Centre where the Dog Training Club is held.
Despite the wet weather for 2 or 3 days beforehand it stayed dry in the afternoon and evening and all enjoyed the event, especially the dogs with sausages and burgers galore.

SDTC Club BBQ 26 June 2018
During the BBQ there were a couple of presentations made.
A cheque presented to Ryszard and Shirley Pierechod for the Veterans with Dogs, which was started by their Daughter and Son in Law.
The charity does a lot of work with dogs preparing them to go to homes with military veterans. The difference to the veterans lives has to be seen to be believed. They assist with mental health issues and give the veterans a purpose to their life where they didn't see much future.
Another cheque was presented to David Rose as a donation to his RBL Poppy Appeal ride of 1,000 miles in less than 24 hours 16/17 June. Refuelling stops on the ride, which started from Newthorpe, Leeds, were Lowestoft, Brighton, Exeter, Haverfordwest, Bangor and back to Leeds. A gruelling 23h 45m riding.

Novelty fun show 14 May 2018
The Best in Show winner was Emily Miles with her puppy Jasper , the judge who stepped in at the last minute was Liz Warren, and Paula Scrivens was the steward - it all seemed to go very well. In fact it was a great evening with much laughter and good humour.
Great photograph of Jasper licking the face of Liz, the judge, but we are assured there was no favouritism or promise of licking faces prior to awards being given :-)

SPONSORED WALK - 14 August 2015
We are holding a Sponsored Walk on Friday 14th August starting at 7pm from the Stonehouse Community Centre. The walk is a circular one and is nearly three miles long taking approximately one hour and twenty minutes. Sponsorship money collected will go to ‘Veterans with Dogs’ which provides assistance dogs for ex - service personnel with trauma related mental health conditions. This charity has been started by ex soldier Craig MacLellan - ( son in law of two of our committee members – Ryszard and Shirley Pierchod)
Details of the charity can be found on www.veteranswithdogs.org.uk
Sponsorship forms are available at club, and we ask you to let us know by the first week in August if you are going to take part. If your dog is too young or too old to manage a walk of that length you are still most welcome to take part and add your sponsorship money to what is such a good cause. We are going to charge £3 to everyone taking part also please bring a raffle prize – this will cover the cost of hiring the community centre lounge and to provide refreshments for when you return. All sponsorship money pledged to you will go direct to the charity , with our club also making a generous donation. For those of you who are not so familiar with the Stonehouse area , we will provide a map and written instructions for the route along with mobile numbers to call . We will leave the centre in groups with a committee member at the front, middle and end of the walk to ensure nobody gets lost. We will be walking next to farmland and making two crossings over the main road leading to the M5 via Stonehouse ( both times over the pedestrian crossing with traffic lights) , and at the final stage of the walk there is a short length of road with no pavement via Stanley Downton - as such we think it will be safer to please keep your dogs on leads at all times and please make sure you have plenty of poo bags with you
We look forward to seeing you on Friday 14th August
Summer BBQ held on 24 June 2014 was well attended.

BBQ Evening 18 June 2013
The SDTC BBQ evenings are are always well attended and it gives the chance to try your dog out at small activity obstacles. Also a great opportunity to meet other members that you may not know because they attend different classes and probably on a different evening to yourself.
In the photograph we have Celia, Val and Linda with an odd scattering of members and dogs in the background, no, the members aren't odd just the scattering!

Fish & Chip Quiz Night - 25 Feb 2012
The Fish and Chip and Quiz supper- it was a great success and we have had some very good feedback. There will be another one in the autumn if not before, and our photo shows Mike Munday enjoying the quiz ! The Nippy Chippy from Stonehouse provided an excellent service- delivered on time, lovely hot food and everything we ordered for over 40 people
Skittles evening held on 27 January 2012
Celia showing how it should be done!
The skittles evening was held at The Globe Inn, Stonehouse. Don't know any results of who won what but it was a good evening enjoyed by all that attended.
Club BBQ - 21 June 2011
Setting up for the BBQ.
Luckily the weather held after a showery day and we had a very successful BBQ with many members attending. I would estimate there were about 60 people there.
Kim and Dave did a sterling job of the cooking while Jan, Celia, Marg and Dale ran about organising things and cutting rolls etc.
Lots of items for the raffle, don't yet know how much we raised through this but I'll post it here if I find out.

SDTC Judge at CRUFTS 2010
At the 2010 CRUFTS show our Head Instructor, Mike Vines, was participating as judge for the Australian Cattle Dog breed.
As well as our Head Instructor judging this year we (SDTC) had a good Crufts 2010 -
Mike Vines was judging the Australian Cattle Dog category on the Thursday.
Zuela gets a Second Place at 2010 Crufts.
Congratulations to Tracey and Zuela for getting a second place prize at CRUFTS in the Good Citizen Dog for Boxer Bitches. Not an easy achievement and well deserved.
Well Done Tracey.
Other winners were Val & 'Soxs' who got a first in the Beginners Class, also had a win in the Beginners Class at Reedyford.
Celia Vines won 2 classes and I've received the following update:- "I went to cruft 2010, to collect a Rosette for Perry’s father Tyler he won the Top Stud Dog for the Buhunds,, and of course I entered Perry to show in the limit dog class and won the class, a busy day as I also showed another of Tylers daughters called Bula, we won the junior bitch class, so for us a very good crufts."
I think we would all agree it looks like it was a good Crufts 2010 for the Club in general.
There were others but waiting for details to be sent in, and photos hopefully, Which I'll post in the Photo Gallery when received

15 Dec 2009 - Club Christmas Dinner.
An annual event for club members to celebrate Christmas with a traditional Christmas Dinner.
14 Dec 2009 - Christmas Competition Fun Night.
This is the evening to introduce dogs and owners to taking part in competitions in a light hearted way, although I'm sure some people think it's a preparation evening for CRUFTS !
11 Dec 2009 - Bacon Butty Morning
Each December the club invites the population of Stonehouse to a morning of free bacon butties, sausage rolls, tea/coffee and a raffle. It's an opportunity to have a chat in the warm and start the day off with a nice hot bacon roll. This event is open to everyone in the community. Photo's are on the 'Photo Gallery' page.
07 Dec 2009 - Presentation Evening
Presentation Evening was held 7 December 2009 and was, as usual, very well attended by many members. It's a long time to sit on those plastic chairs but everyone thoroughly enjoys the evening, despite the sore hands from clapping everyone getting rosette's, cups, shields and awards of many different descriptions. Not a single member goes home without some sort of award.
It's not just the dogs that get awards, people also deserve them for the work they put into the club. Some photos are on the Photo Gallery page.

June 2009 - Club Barbeque
All members of SDTC, and members of other clubs, are invited to the annual BBQ held at the clubhouse, usually on the playing field weather permitting. For 2010 it is being held on Tuesday 8 June.
May 2009 - Novelty Fun Night
This is an evening of fun competition which is open to all members, other than those who show their dogs in championship shows. It introduces the members to showing their dogs in a fun and humourous way.
Summer 2008 - Civic Honours Awards
Two honours were bestowed with SDTC connections at the awards held in Stonehouse in the Summer of 2008.
Person of the Year Award - As chair of the Community Centre, Mike Vines’ contribution has been vital to make it the successful meeting place for so many. His “hands-on” approach has ensured that the buildings are well maintained and nothing is too much trouble. For many years he has also been a leading light in the success of the Dog Training Club.
Community Group Award - Stonehouse Dog Training Club has trained thousands to become responsible dog owners and at the same time raised considerable sums of money for local charities for more than 40 years.
Marg Garland received the honour on behalf of the SDTC.
